The NFL has upheld JuJu Smith-Schuster's one-game suspension for violating the league's player-safety policy.
Steelers wide receiver Smith-Schuster and Bengals safety Iloka have been banned for "violations of safety-related playing rules" during Pittsburgh's 23-20 comeback win in Cincinnati.
Smith-Schuster would wish Burfict well, but the National Football League wasn't about let him get away with such a reckless hit. Sure, it's a violent game, but the rules expressly forbid hits like the one Smith-Schuster laid on Burfict.
Ben Roethlisberger does not think it's fair Steelers wide receiver Juju Smith-Schuster was punished the same as Rob Gronkowski for their hits over the weekend. He has continued to make a couple of key catches per week, and even had his second touchdown of the season a couple of games ago, despite dropping a pass earlier.
Gronkowski's hit was debatably more malicious than Smith-Schuster's. "Your conduct following the hit fell far below the standards of sportsmanship expected of an National Football League player".
But Smith-Schuster made the situation a million times worse by standing over Burfict and taunting him.
Burfict's actions after the hit upset Pittsburgh coach Mike Tomlin. "I didn't mean to stand over him".
