  • Robin Wright in House of Cards

Ted Alrandos, Director of contents of online platform, has confirmed that production of House of Cards ' sixth and final season will resume in early 2018 and that Robin Wright will be protagonist. As many fans had hoped, the second Underwood in the pair, Claire, will take the show spotlight, bringing it to the finale that may itself snowball into a spin-off series from the streaming company.

"We were really excited we could get to an agreement" and wanted to provide "closure to fans", he said, Variety reported.

Since that time, numerous other sexual harassment and sexual assault accusations have come out against Spacey.

Current and former employees who worked on House of Cards told CNN that Spacey would target young men on the production team with "nonconsensual touching and crude comments".

Netflix previously announced it "will not be involved with any further production of House Of Cards that includes Kevin Spacey" after initial allegations were made about him by actor Anthony Rapp.

The show is moving forward following Netflix's decision last month to no longer work with Spacey in any capacity, including House of Cards and a planned biopic of Gore Vidal. Robin Wright, who plays the president's wife Claire Underwood, will assume the lead role.

The plot of the final, shortened season will "be refocused to center on co-star" Wright, The Guardian reports. The character has always been despicable, and now that Spacey's alleged actions have come to light, one imagines there's not a strong desire to give Frank Underwood an emotional farewell. Each of the previous season have comprised 13 episodes. We will continue to work with MRC during this hiatus time to evaluate our path forward as it relates to the show.
