Russian Federation condemns the provocative actions of the United States with regard to North Korea, as well as Washington's attempts to involve Tokyo and Seoul in provocations, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has stated, adding that Japan and South Korea "will become the first victims in case of the outbreak of a war on the Korean peninsula".

Speaking on a visit to Belarus on November 30, Lavrov also rejected a US call to sever ties with North Korea following its latest ballistic-missile test.

"If war comes, make no mistake: the North Korean regime will be utterly destroyed", US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley added.

He called Haley's speech on North Korea, which she made at an emergency UN Security Council meeting, "a really bloodthirsty tirade".

"We will do everything to ensure that (the use of force) doesn't happen so that the problem is decided only using peaceful and political-diplomatic means". Moscow has been closely working with the USA on the North Korean issue, with several meetings being held between the countries' diplomats in the Russian capital and other venues, the FM added.

Implementing sanctions, then, has been a way for China to "punish" North Korea and yet it has suggested it was prepared to defend the country if the US attacked it, according to an editorial in Chinese state run newspaper The Global Times. However, he made clear that, during the talks with the Russian MPs, Pyongyang didn't mention any plans to put a stop to its controversial nuclear program.
