Khosrowshahi said he had only recently learned of the breach, which happened in October 2016.
It's worth pointing out that while the company is now alerting the authorities, California's data security breach notification law requires disclosure in "the most expedient time possible and without unreasonable delay".
News of the hack came in an extraordinary admission by the USA firm's chief executive on Tuesday that revealed a third-party server had been infiltrated in late 2016.

Khosrawshahi adds, "while I can't erase the past, I can commit on behalf of every uber employee that we will learn from our mistakes".
