USA to end protection status for Nicaraguan in 2019

The Trump administration has given 2,500 Nicaraguans with provisional residency 14 months to leave the United States, announcing Monday that it will not renew the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designation that has allowed them to remain in the country for almost two decades.
The administration is also postponing a decision until next July on how deal with a similar program for 86,000 residents from Honduras.
They also lamented during a call with reporters November 7 that Elaine Duke, acting secretary of Homeland Security, put off a decision on TPS for 57,000 Hondurans for six months, saying more time was needed to determine if they could remain in the US because of adverse social and economic conditions in their homeland.
"Congress must pass "The American Promise Act" to give permanent protections to thousands of Nicaraguans and other TPS holders who consider the USA their home". Duke had determined the adverse conditions in Nicaragua left by Hurricane Mitch no longer exist, officials said. Immigrants from El Salvador make up the largest number of TPS recipients at 195,000. In its wake, the United States granted Nicaraguans and Hondurans a Temporary Protected Status (TPS), meaning they were sheltered from deportation and allowed to get things like jobs and insurance.
BuzzFeed News previously reported that years after the U.S. designated El Salvador and Honduras for TPS, only residual effects of the natural disasters exist, but they have been compounded by unemployment and gang violence.
McGrorty, executive director of Catholic Legal Services in the Archdiocese of Miami, said US law is meant to be implemented "with a certain degree of kindness and compassion", and that sending people to countries that are ill-prepared to welcome them would do far more harm than good.
Thousands of Nicaraguans and tens of thousands of Hondurans have been living in the USA for nearly 20 years thanks to the TPS programme.
"I think they deserve to have some sense of belonging", he said. Barahona said she would probably remain in the United States illegally and "stay as long as possible".

"The decision to end TPS status for Nicaragua is part of Trump's racist drive to force millions of people of color underground, into jails and out of the country".
The decision to end the status for Nicaraguans could be seen as a move to fulfil Trump's vow to tighten restrictions on immigration.
Many hope the Trump administration will decide against eliminating TPS.
They called for TPS to be extended at 18-month intervals, as the current law requires, until Congress hammers out a legal fix.
Rogue Twitter employee deactivates Trump's account
After the account was restored Trump did not tweet about the vanishing act, but made several posts on other topics. But by 7 p.m., Twitter had learned that a customer support employee, on their last day of work, pulled the stunt.
"They have roots in this country". They were allowed to stay in the United States after a 2010 natural disaster devastated the capital, Port-au-Prince, and killed 200,000. DHS had announced six months earlier that it was extending the protection for just another six months so for immigrants to prepare to go back.
