  • Trump says recalls little about meeting where aide mentioned Russian Federation

The Washington Post also reported earlier this week that Papadopoulos sat next to Sessions during a dinner at the Capitol Hill Club for campaign advisers weeks before the Republican National Convention, according to another person who attended.

But Sessions, who was a top surrogate for Trump during the campaign, did not disclose these discussions despite a persistent set of questions from Democrats and some Republicans about Russian Federation during multiple hearings on Capitol Hill.

The person familiar with Sessions' activity during the campaign said his testimony has been truthful and consistent.

Democrats on the Senate Intelligence Committee, which is also looking into allegations of collusion and Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election, also want a reckoning from Sessions.

Asked about a meeting in which aide George Papadopoulos suggested arranging a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Trump told reporters: "I don't remember much about that meeting".

In addition to Leahy and Blumenthal, Senators Al Franken (Minn.) and Chuck Schumer (NY) are calling for the attorney general to testify. Jeff Sessions and "a few people" on the Trump campaign.

"You know, it'll come out", Page said. "Perjury is a very careful standard, but it's something that would be looked at".

Under pressure, Sessions later recused himself from the Department of Justice investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. Near the end of the dinner, Page approached Sessions to say hello and thanked the then-senator for the dinner, and Page also mentioned he was headed to Russian Federation.

"It might be worth writing a letter and saying 'What happened?' I wouldn't mind writing a letter, because he was pretty definitive he never had that discussion about Russia", Graham of SC said in an interview.

At the time of that article, a spokeswoman for Sessions declined to comment.

"He may still have technically answered the question correctly", said Representative Jerrold Nadler, a New York Democrat.

In an eight-page letter sent to Sessions Thursday, Franken called on the attorney general to explain why he didn't mention the Papadopoulos exchange while testifying before the Senate.

Gordon said that he did not fault Sessions for not recalling things that Papadopoulos said in private settings, noting that thousands of people approached the campaign, "including many, many true volunteers".

Asked under oath at a Senate hearing last month if he believed Trump campaign surrogates had communications with Russians, Sessions replied, "I did not and I'm not aware of anyone else that did, and I don't believe it happened". "I think that on different occasions he either has a bad memory or he is deliberately not telling me the truth".

In previous interviews, Page had denied meeting with any Russian government officials during the July 2016 trip, which included visiting Moscow's New Economic School, saying he met with "mostly scholars". "Sessions needs to be more forthright to our committee and clarify the record and I intend to write to him about it".

Browns, Bengals Fail to Agree to AJ McCarron Trade
The Browns are casting a wide net at quarterback, but continue to lack decisiveness as they search for an answer under center. According to ESPN , the Bengals had signed off on the trade and relayed that information to the league office at 3:55 p.m.

When Tapper asked if Sessions, now the U.S. attorney general, was "the only one on the campaign that knew about the trip", Page replied: "I mentioned it to a few people".
