Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl: Who is he?

25 October, 2017, 01:08 | Author: Jeffery Armstrong
  • Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl leaves a motions hearing during a lunch break in Fort Bragg N.C. The fate of Bergdahl rests in a judge’s hands now that the Army sergeant has pleaded guilty to endangering his comrades

Bergdahl told the interviewer that that he was tortured and kept in a steel cage during the five years the Taliban held him hostage, but that did not compare to how the Army treated him after the U.S.

The judge deciding Bergdahl's punishment for walking off his post in Afghanistan in 2009 heard defense arguments Monday that Trump recently reaffirmed his scathing criticism and is preventing a fair sentencing hearing.

The sergeant did not have a plea deal set up, so he may well get a life sentence in a hearing scheduled for this Monday. And he's also - they're setting up sentencing, so I'm not going to comment on him.

President Trump has inadvertently thrown a wrench into the final stage of Army sergeant Bowe Bergdahl's trial. "They got what they wanted", he said.

Gemma Collins Is Considering Suing The BBC After Stage Fall
Now Gemma Collins, 34, has become an viral sensation all over again, this time for falling down a trap door live on stage. Gemma Collins said that the fall made her feel a bit like the fictional accident-prone Bridget Jones.

Bergdahl is expected to appear for sentencing on Monday in a military courtroom after pleading guilty to desertion and misbehaviour before the enemy. "President Trump stands at the pinnacle of an unbroken chain of command that includes key participants in the remaining critical steps of the case", the defense argued in its motion, according to the Los Angeles Times.

He faces a possible life sentence.

Nance said it was more reasonable to believe Trump last week "was saying, "I can't talk about this, but I think everybody knows what I think about Bowe Bergdahl". Nance added his interpretation of Trump's meaning to be: "I shouldn't comment on that, but I think everyone knows what I think on Bowe Bergdahl".

But Maj. Justin C. Oshana, the prosecutor, argued that Trump's Rose Garden response - "but I think people have heard my comments in the past" - did not amount to improper influence.

Bergdahl elected to be tried by a judge, not a panel of military officers, in August. But on October 16, the president spoke about Bergdahl again.

The judge, who said there was no doubt he could be fair and impartial, did not immediately rule.

Many others, including members of his own platoon, say Bergdahl's disappearance placed other soldiers in Afghanistan at risk as the Army scrambled to find him.

Bergdahl told investigators he snuck away from his outpost in 2009 with plans to run about 20 miles to Forward Operating Base Sharana in order to bring attention to what he saw as serious issues and leadership mistakes within his unit.
