Iqbal said some "non-state actors" had kidnapped her, adding that tribal leaders in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa played an important role in her recovery, Dawn reported.

26-year-old journalist Zeenat Shahzadi was abducted on August 19, 2015 from Lahore while she was on the way to work.

The International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) had mentioned Shahzadi's case in its report on August 30, 2017 titled - "No more "missing persons": the criminalization of enforced disappearance in South Asia". "I am thrilled that she is home safe", said rights activist Beena Sarwar.

The Zeenat had however informed her parents that she was taken away forcibly by the intelligence agencies of Paksitan while she was investigating disappearance of Hamid Nehal Ansari A resident of Mumbai.

Later, Pakistani authorities admitted that Ansari was in jail on espionage charges. She was due to appear before the Commission for Missing Persons the next day.

Ansari, meanwhile, had gone missing in Pakistan in November, 2012. Shahzadi was in contact with her mother and went out of the way to help her. Hamid was imprisoned for three years after Zeenat went missing.

Shahzadi had filed an application with the Supreme Court's Human Rights Cell two years ago on behalf of Hamid Ansari's mother Fauzia Ansari.

This application by Zeenat had forced the Pak security agencies to admit that Ansari was in their custody.

Fauzia told Pakistan newspaper that said she was delighted to know about Shahzadi's release. Deciding that he had to see her, Ansari reportedly entered Pakistan illegally via Afghanistan, failing to obtain a visa.

"In January 2016, thanks to the efforts of Shahzadi, the Deputy Attorney General of Pakistan finally admitted that the Ministry of Defense had detained Ansari pending his trial in a military court".
