Collins rules out ME governor's bid, will stay in Senate

Collins said previously that she'd like to heal the state and "bring people back together".

Collins plans to reveal her decision at a meeting of local business leaders in the city of Rockland. She has been a consistent thorn in McConnell's side as her willingness to go her own way has left him short of votes on key bills, most prominently his efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act. For a time, it seemed like that number might shrink even further on the GOP side of the aisle, as Collins was widely rumored to be considering a run for ME governor in 2018, aiming to replace the hyper-controversial Paul LePage.

Contemplating whether to give up her seniority in the United States Senate and the influence it grants, has been a major factor in her decision. They include former Health and Human Services Commissioner Mary Mayhew, Maine House Minority Leader Ken Fredette and Maine Senate Majority Leader Garrett Mason. She said she was "forever grateful" for her increasing support from ME residents.

After several months of open deliberations about her future, Senator Susan Collins of ME announced Friday that she would not run for governor and would remain in the Senate.

There is, of course, the other argument over how an underage marriage is valid in the first place. This move will go a long way in discouraging the prevalent practice of child marriage in India.

She would join a crowded field in the race for governor to replace two-term Republican Gov. Paul LePage, who can not run again because of term limits.

Since April, Ms. Collins, 64, has toyed publicly with the idea of running for governor, which was the first office she ran for, in 1994.

Fredette told the Portland Press Herald that if Collins had chose to run, she might have been a dominant force in the race.

Senator Angus King issued a statement in part saying he knew how hard Collins' decision was and her announcement reflects her commitment to putting ME people first.

The body of Bennington , a 41-year-old father of six, was found on July 20 by his housekeeper in his home in Palos Verdes Estates. His death left the band and his fans heartbroken , inspiring murals and a tribute concert at the Hollywood Bowl later this month.

Collins and LePage mark out the two poles of the state's Republican Party.

Maine Republicans have touted their recent success at electing and re-electing candidates to Congress, the governorship and the state Legislature, where the GOP maintains control of the Senate.

Collins also criticized President Donald Trump's move this week to end cost-sharing reduction payments to health insurers, one of the subsidies that helps tamp down premiums for Americans buying their health insurance on the individual market.
